About Free Dog!Free Dog! is a small consulting operation. We pride ourselves on not being like traditional IT consulting firms—button-down, risk-averse, unimaginative. Instead we see our role as helping with total business optimization, in which IT is about people and process, not technology. And we don't sell a solution. We don't offer software or packaged processes. Our only objective is to provide support for your objectives, to implement your vision as quickly and efficiently as possible. Free Dog! has one principal who is ably assisted by a staff of Weimaraners. About Jeff Ward
Although he started out as a cultural anthropologist (studying Silicon Valley startup companies), Jeffrey J. Ward has more than twenty years of experience in the high technology industry. His background is diverse, including line and management positions in Technical Support, Technical Publications, Software Quality Assurance, Software Development, Project and Program Management, and Sales. He has managed software development projects for numerous enterprise software companies, including Sybase and Informix. He has worked in Europe as well as the US, and for small startups as well as established companies. Jeff has recently focused his attention on IT, as project manager, a manager of global IT organizations, and as a consultant to CIOs. He helps IT organizations avoid outsourcing by participating fully in their parent businesses, adding value to more than just technical solutions. And he specializes in helping CIOs with the first six to twelve months of their tenures, during the period when they are expected to accomplish an enormous amount with a new staff that may not understand the basic tenets of their goals. Jeff is a member of the Project Management Institute and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has served on the joint ANSI and ISO committee that established standards for the SQL database language. He wrote the very first SQL stored procedures, triggers, rules, and constraints used in a production application when he was at Sybase. It's probably unnecessary to say that Jeff is a dog lover who helps others train "problem dogs." Or that he is a founder of the San Francisco Dog Owners Group. Or that he previously wrote advice columns for dog owners on pet-oriented Web sites. Jeff is partial to Thai food. That's pretty much it. |
